Meet Tainá, an AI that leverages the art of storytelling to empower local communities in sharing knowledge. Whether capturing photos of nature or sharing stories about plants, traditional peoples contribute to significant scientific discoveries while being compensated and credited for their contributions.

The project is a partnership between the Oyá Institute and GainForest, a Swiss non-profit technology organization specializing in co-designing community technology. GainForest works on various fronts using Artificial Intelligence for environmental preservation.

In 2024, this partnership was honored with the Bonus Prize of the #XPRIZERainforest competition, valued at $250,000. This achievement, in one of the world’s largest scientific competitions dedicated to environmental preservation, was made possible thanks to the leadership of Indigenous communities in the Amazon region.
